Anne Franks house, a boat cruise (amongst other liberal activities) make for an interesting city
posted by:
Apr 01, 2008
I must say Amsterdam certainly didn't charm us but it did interest us! I had never been in a city before where pretty much anything goes.  We were fascinated by Anne Frank's house (how they lived in this claustrophobic space for so long is absolutely beyond me) and spent time here exploring the museum.  The windmills, cheese and clog factory added to the culture as did a nightly boat cruise.  The cruise was organised as part of our tour and was a great way to f...

My first time in a plane
posted by:
Sep 15, 1993
It was my first time in a plane. I bought a one way ticket to Hong Kong, but at the check-in counter they did not let me pass. I needed a return ticket otherwise the HK custums would send me back. Panic! because I would meet my girlfriend at HK airport, she was flying in from Brunei the same day. I i would miss my flight we could have trouble finding eachother. Gladly I managed to buy a refundable return ticket with my credit card and was on my way. I kept teh ticket with me all the time and ...

I AMsterdam
posted by:
Oct 01, 2007 - Oct 04, 2008

Lost in Schipol - not I!
posted by:
Jun 03, 2008 - Jun 04, 2008
Apparently the weather in Amsterdam was bad. I don't know, I slept from 20 minutes after take off from London until just before we got to our gate at Schipol Airport. The plane had to circle the airport for about 30 minutes before we could land. I was travelling with a pretty fun group of people but they had no sense of direction! I was tasked with leading the four of us through the rather enormous terminal to our gate for the flight to Hannover. I stopped the fix my shoe and the other three...

My Amsterdam experiences.....
posted by:
Nov 19, 2007
Well I had a lot of great experiences in Amsterdam! ...... The museums were the best ever. I got a special pass that got me into a few different museums for a whole year! Since I was going to be there for 5 weeks, I decided to get one because it was cheaper than visiting each museum once. I'm very glad I did too! The paintings were on  rotation and the exhibits changed. So I was able to afford going to The Rijksmuseum and Van Gohg Museum about two or three times each and saw different s...

Our camping spot was in Histfals, Denmark last night and with the help of some motorways we make good progress towards Amsterdam.  Mid day we fuel up and eat at a roadside Rasthaus in Germany so we are back to the Ausfahrts (exit signs).  I point to something good at the hot food section and the girls asks me lots in German and something about the 'sides cut off'.  Saying yes, I get the slices of pork, 4 boiled potatoes, gravy and hot sweet and sour red cabbage saurkraut. ...

Schiphol Airport Didn't have time to get this done, just an ordinary massage, but this is what the brochure says: Back to Life aqua massageA Back to Life aqua massage gives you new energy and leaves you fully relaxed. This massage is a good alternative for a full body massage as the water jets cover the body from head to toe. The treatment feels as if your body is being massaged by thirty-six fingertips. A massage while lying in this machine is therefore a unique experience. You can leave y...

Craziest. Town. Ever.

Wow...  Amsterdam.  When I was planning this vacation, I figured that Amsterdam would be one of the cooler places, and, above that, one of the places that I had to go to because it is one of the places that everyone goes to and says how wild and awesome it is.  So I made sure it would be one of the longest stays we'd have in Europe.  In the beginning we were to spend two weeks in Amsterdam... or, maybe a week here and then a week around it in other cities in The Netherland...

You'd think there's only so many times you can keep going back to one place! But nooo. This trip was a bit of a disaster. Missed my flight again! Trains at Liverpool St had broken down so tried to take a cab but it was peak hour so there was little chance. London's transport is great...when it works. This fiasco cost me an extra £100 in all, so I was not at all please. Cest la vie.So anyway, FINALLY got to Amsterdam and met Camilla and Mareike again. It was a fun weekend. Jessica (my fl...

Hi all.  So besides some rainy bits, Amsterdam is great.  I've found my way around my little area, which has the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, which is the national museum of art and history and boths are amazing.  There's a lot of other touristy stuff around (like a hard rock cafe and a casino)  but I'm getting to see some really Netherland parts as well.  For example, I had lunch at this cafe where they had a tuna melt w/ salsa and it was incredible.&n...
