Dungeon or Play Show?? Apr 10, 2012
I visited this Dungeon in order to get more knowledge about the real Dungeon in Amsterdam. Unfortunately this place is more for tourist show than real Dungeon.

After I hand in the ticket at the gate, the lady staff who dress up like a witch take my photo and then usher me inside to wait with other people (probably around 20 of us) in front of the lock door with dim lighting. Then the witch lady inform us in 2 different languages (Dutch and English) about the rules, no touching and no opening the door). After that she divided us into 2 groups to take the elevator.

Once were were outside the elevator, another staff (this time a male) usher us inside a room and give explanation about the tools equipment for torture (he also put me in the jail inside that room). Once this finish, he leads us to another room and pretend that it was a ship and the stories began, bla..bla..bla.. and I get lucky again in this ship to carry a poo bucket and pull the bell.

Finish with this performance, move on to the next judge hearing. At this stage, I get bored and wish i could get out from there. Most of the performance done with the dim lighting and sometimes no light at all.

Anyway, before the tour finish, we had 2 minutes roller coaster ride to the exit.

I though it's waste of money, cost euro 16 (after discount).

DO this. Apr 05, 2011
If you can, try and buy the combo tickets, which mean that you can buy a ticket for Madame Tussuads as well as the Amsterdam Dungeon for 30 Euros (which isn't toooo bad).

The dungeon is one of 5 in the world. The props, actors, story and entire setting of the dungeon is very convincing and I found it scary- as did my friend who held my arm so tightly that I lost feeling in it very soon. You enter the dungeon with the "Key lady", and then are put on your way. The sounds, smells and detail in the dungeon is perfectly according to scrip.

It also gives you some history of Holland and Amsterdam, which is interesting.

At the end my pulse was still racing and we couldn't stop talking about the experience afterwards.

I recommend this to a traveller to Amsterdam!

Scary events of the Golden Ages May 21, 2009
This place is not for the faint of hearted since it has many special effects that will scare people. But if you see through all the scary stuff and enjoy the plays and act along when the actors pick you to be charged for a non existing crime, then you will have a blast.

I loved it.

The Amsterdam dungeon is a mixture between a show, an attraction and a museum. At the Amsterdam dungeon you can learn everything about the history of the Netherlands and it's all brought to you if the form of a museum, by actors and by some sort of rollercoast ride.

The dungeon concept can also be found in other countries. (London, Edinburgh, York, Hamburg) but in Amsterdam you will see things that are specific for the Dutch history. The VOC, The Pest (damn I dont know the translations for those things..), the spanish inquisition. It's not a day-visit. It will take up around 2 hours or so I think.

NOTE: It's not for children! Children under the age of 14 can't enter without someone to accompany them!
