Basic accommodation - Perfect for a city break Dec 30, 2012
Stayed here for 3 nights in March 2012 as part of a package deal city break. I found the location away from the centre of the city a quirk that helps you see different aspects of the city. The Botel is moored next to a Green Peace boat and a seemingly permanently semi-submerged submarine. The ferry connecting it with the city runs from behind the train station, is frequent and only a short journey (helpful for clearing the head after over indulgences in the city).

The room was clean but basic, not unlike the Etap chains. There was no noticeable movement from the water. The bar / restaurant served a nice breakfast but the rest of the time seemed more of an assembly place for before and after trips out to the city. I would stay there again if returning for a similar trip, but would recommend somewhere closer to the city for longer stays.

affordable accomodation near central amsterdam May 11, 2011
Affordable accomodation near central amsterdam- city centre accessible by free ferry, basic but clean- quite small but all that is required for a weekend city break. Breakfast included; basic but adequate- carb central! Along with continental bits!

Good budget hotel choice in Amsterdam - easily accessible via free ferry at back of train station.

Great Breakfast, not too central, but for that price it doesn't matter!

The Amstel Botel is a unique and affordbale place to stay in Amsterdam. It is near the train station, and a 10 minute walk from the the main cultural sights in Amsterdam. Although you are on a boat you don't really feel as if you are on one (which is useful if you visit one of the city's infamous "coffee houses"). But the views from the cabins are nice and the rooms and bathrooms immaculate. The Breakfast provided was very good, nice variety and a nice bar to socialize in during the evenings. A perfect place if Amsterdam is but one of many stops on your itinerary since it is so close to the train station.
