Amphitheatre Trier Reviews
Amphitheatre Trier Nov 20, 2010
The amfitheatre in Trier was build around 100 AD.In the theatre they used to have gladiotorfights and also executions. Besides that the theatre was also used for other purposes. The building was part of the city wall and was used as the eastern cityportal.
At the Germanic invasion at 406-407 the Amfitheatre wasn’t spared. After the Roman empire falled the theatre became a ruin as the peole use the rocks for re-building there houses.
The Amfitheatre was build on hillside from the Petrismount.
The outside measures 140 by 120 meters and the arena measures 70 by 50 meters. Under the arena there is a bassement where the gladiators and wild animals waited till there fight. With an elevator there were brought on to the arena floor.
In 1986 the Amfitheatre was put on the UNESCO list.
I deffintly think it’s worth paying a visit!!
