Beautiful Sri-lankan food with a bit of bite Sep 06, 2013
Started in 2013, this follows on from a successful Sri-lankan food stall at Rapid Creek markets. Offering a daily selection of 3 meat curries and 3-4 vegetable curries together with Biryani, String hoppers, and lassi this cafe provides great lunch fare and excellent dinner options. The real specialty of this cafe/restaurant are the vegetarian curries - my favourites are the eggplant, beetroot and sweet potato ones. While many restaurants have a tendency to cool down the spiciness of meals to fit the Australian audience, the curries are all of medium heat giving them suitable but not excessive bite. The consistency of the food is superb ensuring repeat visitation. I have introduced the restaurant to many people all of whom have been satisfied. Costs are around $13.50 (1 meat and 2 vegetable curries, papadams, biryani) + drinks for lunch time. Can be more expensive (+$2) if having more than 1 meat dish. Have not yet been for dinner but i understand it is more expensive. Chilled water is provided for in-house dining which is a nice touch in Darwin. Get there early (12pm) as there is only limited seating which quite often fills up.
