In a perfect world with no flight cancellations or delays, and where someone could hop from plane to plane within 15 minutes, how many countries can a person visit in the shortest possible time? Here's one possibility using July 2006 timetables.

Baalbek, Bosra y el esplendor del Imperio Romano
posted by:
Jun 30, 2006 - Jul 30, 2006

Ups and Downs in Amman

The next morning, it was on to Amman!  After showering off the rest of the salt (yeah, we slept slightly salty....) and grabbing breakfast downstairs (pita, jam, butter, tea and a hard boiled egg) we caught the bus that would take us to Amman.  This was was air-conditioned (SWEET!) but the men smoked on the bus anyway.  *shrug*   Also, my chair back was broken, so every time I started to nod off I would feel the back slowly reclining until eventually the guy behind me…

It's Ramadan and we are fasting. At 4:30 pm we eat. When the sun is no longer visible on the horizon. We start with dates, proceed with water, soup from lenses, lambmeat and rice wrapped in leaves. We top it off with a ciggarette and a cup of coffea. There is a comedy on TV. Two married men are out looking for action in an arabic nightclub. Their wives are following them but, completely covered, except their eyes and nose. So their husband dont recognize them. The wives see how their m…

10 days with 45 archeology enthusiasts and two nice guides (a bedouin and a syrian) riding a bus across the two countries. Fascinating places, ruins, people and nature. Good food, but a quarter of our group caught the usual gastroenteric problems. Very nice weather except a sandstorm in Palmyra. We admired the signs of ancient civilizations and Roman Empire, and we were able to experience a Turkish Bath (same as Roman Thermae...) great! highly recommened!

Just thought I'd document my pitstop in Jordan. It's also interesting to note that everyone recommends having the Israelies stamp a seperate piece of paper - as opposed to your actual passport - due to the neighboring countries prejudice against them.  For example going between both countries with full transparency is extremely difficult & can possibly get you denied entry at either border.  At my Jerusalem hostel, I got to know about 5 Brits who made it across the border... bu…

I just arrived to Amman, Jordan after a sweltering 4 hour car ride with 3 other people in the back seat with me. I am trying to decide if I should go to Dubai for the next 4 days or just stick around here.

51st state of the USA?
posted by:
Oct 12, 2004 - Nov 09, 2004
Finally, we covered new territory when we crossed into Jordan, described by our taxi-driver as the 51st state of the USA.  Surely not, I questioned him.  Wouldn't Iraq be 51st and Jordan 52nd?  He held his view firmly!

So I had just about one whole day to check out Amman whilst awaiting my "wee hours of the morning" flight to Europe the following morning.  After getting settled into my hotel (the Le Royal)... i decided to take it easy for a bit and catch up on some sleep.  My decision to sleep (vice wander) was further justified by the fact that it was Ramadan and the whole of Amman was fairly quiet at the moment.  After some beauty rest, I finally decided to wander around and find some shwar…

Favourite pink thongs (flip flops) often need more than duck tape for survival. If there is not enough water pressure to get your hair wet – then there is certainly not enough to get the shampoo out of your hair– so don’t put it in to start with. If the Aspro Clear pack says ‘dissolve in water’ then that’s what you do.  Don’t just wack it in mouth on the bus.  One, it tastes like a sodium explosion and two, you will look like a dog with rabies within seconds. If you…
