A bit of a rip-off Jun 06, 2010
This is a long-time favourite amongst backpackers. I have no idea why. Well, actually I do. For lack of competition this dump remains the main choice for budget travellers and the two brothers who run the place know this all too well.

You can choose between very spartan private rooms or a mattress on the floor in a rather depressing underground dormitory. Cleanliness seems a foreign concept and the shared facilities are rather smelly indeed. There seems to be only one shower available per floor, although I never had to wait. Ironically these were the hottest showers I have had in the all of Iran. Even more ironic, the beds are pretty good as well. And at $ 20 for a double room this is pretty good value if you are with 2 persons. Still I wouldn't recommend it though.

A simple breakfast is served for an additional $ 2.50 per person. The hostel also offers help with booking of transportation and can exchange money. Laundry is also available, either to use the washing machine and do it yourself, or to have the staff in the hostel do it. In reality there is very little difference between the two, as the second option still means you have to take the washing down from the clothes line and fold it yourself.

They also claim to have Internet available, though I never saw it working. Fortunately there's an excellent coffeenet within walking distance at Hossein square.

To sum it, this is not a very nice place, but you will probably end up staying here for lack of alternatives (there are other places available in Esfahan though, shop around if you can). This is a good place for meeting other travellers though, since every foreigner seems to be staying here anyway.

It can very well be that you had a better experience at this place. Why don't you write a review as well, so that readers get a more balanced view?
As for English being spoken, I never had any troubles in Iran. There was adequate English spoken in all the Iranian hotels I have reviewed.

I stayed here in late october, and there were no people. Very simple services, but th staff is well-educated and they even knew English - rare chance in Iran! They always knew what I wanted and could give some advice.
Maybe the price is high for iranian level ($20 for double room), but if you don't want to explain every your request ten times - it's better to choose Amir Kabir.

Spartan rooms & mattresses on the floor ? They are giving the authentic experience of being in jail maybe. hahaha- always good to be prepared over there !

You are getting what you are paying for.still the best option in Isfahan Nov 15, 2010
As many people have said before Amir Kabir is pretty well the place that expats meet when visiting Isfahan , its location is good directly down the main road to all the sights ,there is currently a lot of road work going on out front but to be honest the noise levels wont change as the traffic is chaotic at best ..luckily Isfahan has enough to do that you could sleep thru a bomb blast most days lol..i had single room ,very basic, more like a box that fits u and ur bed(it also provides security for ur gear however money valuables passport can be put in safe at reception.. ,the showers were up the hallway and nice and hot ,western toilets available (note no toilet paper )the breakfast is basic and a bit of a scam $5us ,you can do better up the street, it depends on how keen u are in the morning, the staff are fine and can organise most things including visa extensions.there is an internet cafe two doors up on the upper level , no internet was available in the hostel .. ,
