Ameyoko Market Ueno Reviews
Crowded market in Tokyo May 20, 2007
This market used to be a black market during world war 2. It's located between Ueno and Okachimachi areas of Tokyo.
Nowadays the shops sell lots of items from clothing, shoes, food & drinks, spices and souvenir items. If you like to shop or chase bargains, this is certainly a market to visit. I found it quite lively, with vendors shouting out bargains through microphones.
I've walked through the market a few times and every time it was packed with people. I was warned about pick-pockets. I must admit I forgot about it every time I walked there, probably because Japan is a very safe country. But still be aware of pick-pockets in crowded places like this market!
