Amersfoort Vacation Guide
Amersfoort is a calm town of 130.000 souls. because it almost dubbeld in size over the last 40 years it has a wide range of architectural styles. Some are international known like "Kattenbroek"with a lot of contemporary architecture. Guided tours are available on request . at the local tourist office you can get a map if you prefer to do the tour yourself .
Amersfoorts history dates as far back as 1100. Nomadic tribes settled at the rivers edge at a place where the water was shallow enough to wade to the other side. The historic inner city of Amersfoort has a Medieval pattern of streets and squares, here you will find hundreds of old restored houses. A string of houses from the 19th century ‘muurhuizen’ is part of the heart shaped inner city and flanks the old city wall, its a very nice 30 minutes stroll along this quite street.
The old towncenter its buzzing with live , there are several smaller and larger squares and streets wher you can enjoy restaurants ,bars ,theaters and shops. When the weather is fine many Amersfortians like to enjoy a beer from the local brewery "de drie ringen" ,ore coffee on te square
there´s organised canal tours in the summer and you can stroll and bike almost anywhere. The Zoo (Dierenpark Amersfoort), the puppet theatre Toermalijn or the Centre for Education of Nature and Environment on Estate Schothorst make the city attractive for children as well.
there is plenty of hotels in all price classes to fit your budget, look at the site of the local tourist office (VVV) for more info. ; amersfoortyourway.nl
