Americas Best Value Inn Brunswick Reviews
A good value Mar 24, 2012
I am remiss to complain at all about the America’s Best Value Inn in Brunswick, because it was clearly a bargain for the dirt cheap fee charged. Paying next to nothing got me a spacious room with the standard amenities, including a fridge, cable TV and excellent wifi connection. The facility possesses a slightly eerie quality, consisting of a separate building for the office and two humongous structures for the rooms. I don’t recall who owned this joint when we lived here, but the enormous grassy field fronting the property has nothing but an ancient pool being reclaimed by weeds. Beyond the abandoned pool there were only two cars parked in the enormous lots by the enormous buildings, lending a disturbing, deserted vibe.
The current owners or management team seemed to be an Indian or Pakistani family living in the office structure (when I entered the lobby you could see a door leading into a regular living space, so I assumed it was where the lived) and I was expediently and courteously checked in. The manager reinforced that I only needed to punch “0” on the phone in my room should there be any concerns, and I felt confident there would be prompt assistance. Though I didn’t have to test this assumption, the lack of any reason to call is proof positive of their devotion.
One drawback to the establishment, however, is the location. The inn is located at the extreme southern end of Brunswick, where an unfortunate convergence of roadways exists. Most people get to Brunswick by exiting I-295, and zooming off a long roadway between the interstate and the town well above the posted 35 MPH speed limit (after all, they’ve been proceeding at a 65 MPH limit before jumping off). The famous Coastal Route One plugs into Brunswick at the same point, compounding the conundrum.
If you need to leave the hotel, it is most likely you will head into Brunswick, which is quite easy - just hang a right. But when you want to return, you are unable to re-enter the hotel unless you steer towards I-295 and take an off-ramp to 1-South. This immediately dumps you back onto the exit roadway where all the speed demons just departed the interstate, and beyond trying to just get onto to that road (it is a very sharp curve so visibility isn’t great and when you see the other folks flying in it makes you wary), and if you manage to gain access you have to quickly scoot across both incoming lanes to where you may turn into the hotel parking lot, which is inconveniently at the point where the folks zooming up Coastal One North merge! Yikes, a real pain in the butt. You nearly need to duplicate this fiasco if you desire to head south towards Freeport, though in that instance the pain is over once you’ve managed to access the exit roadway and cross over two lanes (and don’t have to worry about any more merges).
So bottom line is – a definite value if you have nerves of steel behind the wheel or don’t plan to leave the hotel often.
