Ziplines in SouthCentral Illinois! Oct 12, 2012
I never would have guessed there would be a great zipline tour in the middle-of-nowhere south-central Illinois, but there is. American Obstacle of Kinmundy is just that. The zipline tour here consists of three zips in the woods by Kinmundy Lake. The tour starts with an optional rock-wall climb (no, I didn't do it -- I took the spiral staircase). The ziplines are fun, comparable to the one I did in the Mexican jungle, just a litle different scenery. To get between the zips, there is one wooden bridge and a tightrope you have to cross. It isn't an option, this is the only way between the zips. The final zipline, you hold a small basketball and if you make the baset, you get a free t-shirt -- which I think is darn near impossible to do. Then, you climb down a ladder to get back to the ground. I can't get over how much fun this zipline tour is!

American Obstacle is located just south of Kinmundy on Route 37. It is near Interstate 57, take the Kinmundy exit, go east on Kinoka to the highway, and turn north; go about an 1/8th of a mile. Reservations are suggested, but not required. Typically, they are busy on the weekends. It is also seasonal, closing after Halloween, and opening mid-spring.
