American Girl Dolls and everything you need for them Mar 07, 2009
The American Girl Store is like a museum. It is geared towards little girls (obviously) but is fun to walk through even if you don't have kids or dolls. I grew up with one of these dolls and still have it, so I like to go and look at the dolls and dresses they have there.

The American Girls Collection is a series of historical characters during different time periods in the US. Each series is about a girl 9-10 years old and how she deals with growing up during her era. They cover the Revolutionary period, slavery, pioneer days, Victorian era, Great Depression, WWII, 1970s, and more. It is a great way for girls to get interested in reading because the stories come to life with dolls, outfits and accessories from the stories.

The first floor of the store has the historical characters. Displays are set up so you can see the doll in the outfits with accessories in glass cases. Beneath the cases are boxes of items to buy. There is also a doll hair studio where you can pay way too much to have your doll's hair untangled and put into a nice hairstyle. The books are also on this floor.

Second floor has the modern dolls with modern outfits and accessories, that change yearly. They have outfits for every interest: sports, horses, camping, music, skiing, gardening, sleepovers, etc. There is also a bistro where you can have a light lunch with your doll. This is a fun activity for girls (I wish they had this when I was younger!). Girls can bring their dolls, or borrow one, and the dolls sit in little booster seats at the table. An adult needs to be present. I have not eaten there, but I think it is a little expensive.

There are not many men in this store, but you see a few looking lost. If you have a little girl on your gift list, and she has one of these dolls, this is a great place to shop for her. You can even buy clothes in her size that match her doll's!
