Amendoeira Praia Hotel

The Amendoeira Praia Hotel in Morro de Sao Paulo is great for the price. It's located on Morro de Sao Paulo's quiet third beach, but it's right around the corner from the second beach and very close to the restaurants and nightlife located there. They have a variety of rooms there and it costed us 25 Reais per person which is about 12 US dollars. If you have a larger group and they ask for anything higher than 25 Reais, you can negotiate based on the number of people in the room and whether or not the room has a hammock. We went in the spring though, and I'm guessing it costs more in summer around Carnival.

The rooms here are clean and basic. They have private bathrooms, air conditioning, mini fridges, and TVs. When they clean your room, they arrange your linens and towels in an interesting fan formation. Some rooms have patios with hammocks right outside the door and there is a pool in the center of the hotel. People who stay there tend to be young and foreign so you'll probably meet some interesting travelers while you're there. A big Brazilian breakfast buffet of tropical fruits, bread, eggs, strong coffee and more is included in the price.
