Amber Museum and Gallery
Amber Museum and Gallery Reviews
Jul 23, 2006The Amber Museum and Gallery in old town Vilnius has an amber store on the ground floor, and the museum in the basement. The place was not big, but had many informative exhibits where you can learn about the Baltic amber, its history and mining process. A reconstructed treasure of Juodkrante found in 1882 and consisted of 434 amber artifacts of the Neolithic period. In the unearthed cellar, an archaeological find of a 15-century complex of furnaces used for baking ceramics. The exhibits of amber were very good, with magnifying glasses to see them clearly. The gallery has many fine pieces of jewelry made from amber. Part of the Baltics, Moscow and St. Petersburg 2006 travel blog |
