Quite place for a good night sleep Dec 30, 2016
The motel located around 2 km away from the town centre, at the small Whakatane town with the most active volcano and the Ohope beach which is very popular by local or tourist alike as it was a very nice beach with a warm water to swim, and usually plenty of sun in this part of the country. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants at the town centre and luckily they are open when we arrived at night time and looking for dinner. In addition, there are plenty of Maori culture, cave and totem around the city centre and the beach.

The motel reception only open from 7am in the morning to 8 pm at night time, so if guests come late at night time, they need to ring the reception, like the case with us. We booked this place through internet and it was prepaid. We ring them as we will arrive after 8pm. They told us the room number, and that our room will be ready, in addition they will unlock the door and leave the key inside so we can just go into the unit.

When we arrived at night time, the owner / manager was there so we can check in and he tell us we can just park the car at the front of our unit and the room was unlock.

The motel building was old but spacious with a neat garden and many statue made from wood carving from Papua New Guinea as his wife is from there. We have booked one bedroom unit apartment with one double bed and one single bed, as it was the only available unit at that time. I do not remember the exact cost per night, either it cost NZ$100 or NZ$130 per night for two people without breakfast.

Our room looks clean enough. The main bedroom with the double bed was okay but it was quite small compare with the single bed which located at the main living room which look much more spacious. There is a two seater sofa and a dining table at the living room and fully function and big kitchen if guests want to do some cooking.

The bathroom is adequate, however there were no heater or fan in the bathroom so after shower, it was very foggy and hot inside. However there is one small window which we can open to let the fresh air come and let the heat out from the bathroom. Towels, soap and shampoo and toilettaries provided freely.

The internet is available in the room for free which is very much appreciated.

We do not check if there is any town map or other sights available from the reception, since we arrive late at night and leave in the morning, and we have our guide book. This motel is okay and very quite at night time, however the mattress was so so. The owner was friendly and chatty. It was an okay stay with reasonable price in the popular town.
