It's huge, no doubt, but this hotel was kind of gross. It seemed shabby, run down, and smelled of mold. At one of the on-site restaurants, they neglected to tell members of our party that they were out of the food that had been ordered for an HOUR until we asked. The beach location was nice, but it felt scuzzy and unkempt most everywhere. Futhermore, as is expected, all of the food was extremely costly relative to restaurants and convenience stores that wern't in the area of the hotel. I really didn't see the rest of Pattaya, but I'm sure there had to be something nicer that was also on the water. Don't think "world's largest beach resort" is the same thing as quality. The staff, however, were excellent and polite.

I stayed at the Ambassador City Jomtien while in Thailand for work in May 2007. It is located approximately 15-20 minutes south of Pattaya (depending on traffic) and within easy reach of many sights. Here is a brief description of the resort from their website.

"4,210 rooms occupying 40 acres of prime beachfront", "worldwide recognized as one of “The Largest Resort Complexes”" & "only ten minutes from the international playground of Pattaya."

Upon arriving however things were not as they had initially seemed. The entire complex was in dire need of a little TLC. A fresh coat of paint on the exterior would have worked wonders. The mold encrusted white walls were ever present but given the jungles and high humidity it was as expected. Many of the facilities were shuttered and had not been open in years. At one point of my stay, all I wanted to do was lounge in the pool and have a couple of alcoholic flavored beverages. Go figure that the only one out of four pools even had the means for a bar. It was a truly disappointing fact of life.

The pictures on the website must have been airbrushed because the room featured on the website was definitely not the one I stayed in. The fourth floor of the Garden Wing is where I called home for my stay. The rooms were generally dark and hadn't been aired out in a LONG time. Musty would be the best description. The décor appeared to be from the 70’s and not changed since then. The television sporadically worked but one could usually watch CNN or the movie channel to their hearts content. Trying to figure out the controls for the TV/ac/lights which were located in the nightstand proved to be entertaining. I won’t even mention the spider web of wires behind it. I will say that I chose not to mess with it fearing for my life though. The shower wasn’t bad as long as you had the time to wait for the water to warm up. God forbid that you were tall since the ceiling was only a few inches above my 5’8” head. Overall the beds appeared to be clean and I didn’t end up with any bites from resident critters.

The restaurants at the resort were ok at best. If you wanted to get in-and-out quickly, go somewhere else. Expediency was definitely not one of their finer virtues. The best places to eat were in Pattaya otherwise nothing was within close proximity (walking distance) to the resort.

If you are coming to this part of Thailand or Pattaya in particular to party…you should just stay in Pattaya. You will be closer to the action and won’t have to deal with the baht buses/taxis to get you back and forth. If you want to relax though, this may be a good place for you. It is a relatively quiet location and the craziness of Pattaya is only a short distance away. The rooms were relatively cheap at a cost of approximately $40-$60 US a night. It was definitely not the Marriot though.
