Amb els 5 sentits Besalu Reviews
amazing Catalan gastronomy Sep 21, 2015
It's named "Amb els 5 sentits" - the five senses.
Located on one of the tiny cobblestone streets of this unusual meievil town.
For 12 Euros you get a tasting menu of 5 courses.
The menu is in Catalan, but no worries, you can't choose anyway.. It changes daily and everyday there's only 5 dishes that come as one meal.
The place is beautifully simple but extremely high quality.
The owner is a very pleasant man, he also is the chef and the waiter.
Before the food he gave us to try a homemade liquor he prepares out of varying combinations of herbs and nuts grown in the city gardens of Besalu.
He bakes the bread with herbs from the garden, in an oven right in the middle of the restaurant.
The menu on our visiting day included: cold bean salad with local fish and fermented green berries, Pulpo (octopus) with spicy souce and herbs, Jamon iberico with mustard dressing on a bruscheta, yellow rice with chickpeas and duck, and a creamy desert.
The price also include the local wine :)
Combining all together, the atmosphere, fresh herbs, local produce, a charming town, and a charming chef/owner/waiter - made it the best gastronomic experience on that trip. Highly reccomended.
Better to make reservations since the place is small and has only few tables.
Doesn't suit vegans...
