High Up in Kandy Jun 18, 2012
The Amaya Hills in Kandy looked good on their website and was rated well in most other portals . What had attracted me towards this hotel was its location . It was supposedly situated on a high point in the hills of Kandy with a wonderful view of the valley.

Reaching Kandy as we drove through the city , we started climbing upwards , our driver showed us the Amaya Hills perched high up on the top of the hill. The weather was cool & cloudy ... we were at the hotel in about 10 minutes .

The lobby and reception is quite unique .. it is like an open lobby with no walls and open to the valley below . The cool breeze .. the beautiful view of the entire Kandy valley is just beautiful. Check in was quick along with a welcome cup of Sri Lankan tea .

Our rooms were facing the valley which is just awesome. Every room had a small balcony facing the valley . Traditional beds , softly lit rooms , tea & coffee making kettle , nice modern bathrooms .

The hotel architecture seemed to be traditional Sri Lankan with tiled roofs . A nice pool .. again facing the valley and a table tennis table for those wanting to play a game of ping pong . They have an Ayurvedic Spa & Massage to take care of tired limbs . The hotel would also score high on its service and its staff .

The multi-cuisine restaurant is on the first floor overlooking the swimming pool and the valley . A large restaurant with an outdoor place sitting place also and some nice wooden umbrellas . The breakfast was a large spread consisting of continental , american , british , Indian and Sri Lankan foods . Dinner was again a large buffet with a large spread of salads , starters , main course and deserts . The dishes were well prepared and quite delicious .

The only downside of staying at the Amaya is that you can't walk to Kandy town and would have to hire a hotel car, but if you want to enjoy being in a quite , naturally tingling and peaceful place , it would be the Amaya . The most stunning views of Kandy would probably make you fall in love with this property .
The Room with a view :)

An Unclean Hotel. Jun 14, 2011
Dirty towels.....bloodstained.

Dirty bed-linen......Not fresh. Actually,... used !!

Dirty room.....see photos.

A very rare negative from LTC.....but this hotel needs a good scrub.

On the plus side, once the manager became aware of the issues with our room he acted very quickly and effectively. First of all, he offered to change our room immediately. We declined as we were only staying a couple of nights and it was late at night.

So he summoned a team and the bedding was immediately changed as were all the towels.

The next day, we were out sightseeing all day and when we returned, it was clear that our room had been scrubbed from top to bottom. There were flowers, fresh fruit, chocolates and a bottle of wine waiting for us.

A very good response from the management, hence the four stars for service.

Amaya Hills Jul 18, 2010
The hotel situated on a top of a hill (high enough to make the weather cool in the summer). It is seem like a fortress seeing from a far. The amenites and service is what you might expected from a hotel charge 115 to 230 USD.

The location provide really good view of surrounding area but because it is on the top of the hill, it is difficult to thinking about going for walk in town. (it is not that difficult arranging the trip but)

Other amenities is there but I just get bored with not much things to do in the resort, otherthan the swimming pool which is not heated. The altitude make it a little cool for my taste. (even in summer)
View from the lobby of the resort.

Amaya Hills Overview

The architecture and detail of the renovated hotel recreates the ambience of the ancient kingdom of Kandy. The hotel comprises a lobby, air conditioning, a 24-hour reception, a safe, a currency exchange facility, a cloakroom, a luggage room, an Internet connection as well as conference and banqueting facilities. The hotel also features a cafe, a bar, a nightclub and a restaurant. Dining may be enjoyed al fresco on the outdoor terrace or inside under the carved wooden ceiling panels with wall hangings of local spears and copper plates. The mahogany wooden chairs in the original rattan design are also unmistakable. The head chef of the hotel restaurants enjoys 30 years of professional experience and has been inspired in his cookery by his travels throughout Europe. Room and laundry services may also be taken advantage of. International specialities from Italy (homemade pastas), China, Indian and Japan may all be enjoyed at this hotel. Dishes that bring out the flavour of mango, avocado, baby jack fruit and rambutan juice are served here. The rooms afford a style of a temple and have retained the historical architecture of Kandy with sun and moon motifs in deep red and black and yellow tones. The tones evoke the murals of the kingdom's earlier centuries. The rooms include an en suite bathroom, centrally controlled air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, satellite/ cable TV, a minibar and a private balcony that offers views out over the valley or the mountains. The hotel is situated some 7 km from the heart of Kandy. From here guests are able to enjoy views of the forest-covered mountains of Heerassagala. It is quietly situated, overlooks the city and is among the most enchanting hotels in Sri Lanka.
