This is my third trip to Amarillo. On the previous two trips (2004 & 2005), we mostly visited with Aunt Murrel. We spent a few hours at Wonderland Park and 10 minutes at the Cadillac Ranch, but I never felt like we did much. So this time, even though we had only a single …

On a previous trip to Amarillo I had visited this Hooters restaurant before. We only stopped by long enough to grab a t-shirt for Jessi. When I started this blog, I knew I would be back this summer, so I decided against writing about my visit to their gift counter. The highlight of that trip was an…

I guess you would call it a light breakfast this morning, because I had cereal, juice, and a small sweet roll while Judy got a couple of the smallest little sausage biscuit sandwiches have ever seen. I got a cup of coffee to go and we packed the car and got on the road.
This is a rather odd day be…

Today is Aunt Murrel’s birthday and our last full day in Amarillo. We made plans to take Aunt Murrel to lunch, but we first had to have breakfast. There was left over chocolate gravy, and fresh biscuits, eggs, bacon, and sausage were cooked up. It was pretty much a repeat performance of the day b…

How do you blog a drive that was really uneventful? Well, I guess for me, just honestly. So here goes. Thursday, August 7th, Kilgore, Texas: I got up and started my drive to CA. It was pretty cool this morning so I was able to drive most of the way with the sunroof open and the windows rolled down.…

We are beginning to get into a routine now. It takes a few days of roadtripping for that to occur. We slept somewhat late and that felt so good. Our hotel offers a full hot breakfast. The front desk clerk told me the service was from 6 to 10 AM. It was, in fact, closed…

The next landmark we stopped at was the Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo, Texas. George got out of the car to take pics, and I stayed in the car to take care of our cat Ema. While he was out there, I watched the tourists walk past. One cowboy stopped his pickup truck and offloaded several bags o…

Took her to the Cadillac farm (East of town on I40), then to the Big Texas stake house. If you have not heard of it, well, if you can eat the big state and trimmings in an hour its free. Some people have done it but most fail. It all cost around $70 too.

PM: (J) We are now in Texas. Is there anything in Texas aside from cattle,
shrubbery and killer bunnies? Apparently if you stay at the ___ ____ Inn you
get a 22 ounce steak for free. I think Texas is trying to compensate for
something. Honestly, the state is the size of Spain with just as …

When I woke up in the morning after a comfortable night on my 2nd couch of the trip, it was 32 degrees, foggy and lightly snowing. Colorado is trying to follow me. My host was nice enough to make me coffee in the morning, so I gave her a lift to school (Texas Tech). I drove …
