Crazy hippy commune type hostel by the beach Jun 22, 2008
Port St Johns is an experience all in itself like no other place else in South Africa and this hostel truly represents the heart of the area. This is the area where all the "hippies" hid out while the army in South Africa began conscripting people.
When we arrived to the sight of a bunch of people wearing extraordinarily odd hats and knocking back drinks in honour of somebodies birthday despite the fact that it was 9 in the morning! The staff are very friendly. The chef would always try to cook me something I never had and even made a special cake for my friends birthday for me. The hostel provide free walking tours of the surrounding area and arrange visits to the local village and transport into town. We even got an invite to a local wedding which was cool. The hostel is right beside the beach so the location is spot on where you want to be. If Crazy Eddie the bar man is still there you will have a great time haha
