Amalfi Harbour Reviews
Great views! May 06, 2011
The Amalfi harbour simply has to be visited if you are in the area. There is a beach nearby, lots of fishing boats further down and the tourist buses just outside the harbour too. After the bus stop area, the heart of Amalfi is just as two-minute walk away.
The views are lovely from here, but the place has become overly touristy. In a small corner, you can still see fishing boats which give the harbour some rustic authenticity. Sadly though, this has been overtaken by lots of day-trippers that arrive on the boats or use Amalfi as a base to explore Capri. Likewise, the shops near the harbour are mainly catering to souvenir and coffee purchases. The beach is small but large enough to lounge around and sunbathe - the visitors here do seem to feel they are a cut above average though!
Despite the hype and commercialism, the place is still a must-see. The views are great, the water is a stunning blue and when the weather is in your favour, there is nowhere else in the area that serves as a great backdrop for soaking up the sun or strolling without a care in the world!
