Am Hof , Vienna, Austria
Am Hof Vienna Reviews
a place that remembers kings that weren't Habsburgs Jul 30, 2010
originally it means "by the court", which has its origin in long history of this place. The court of Babenbergs ruling Austria in Middle Ages was there, but I haven't noticed any presence of sth, which is even in a small part medival.
In the centre of this one of the biggest open places in the inner city you can see Mariensäule ("Column of Mary") , which was built by Emperor Ferdinand III upon the occasion of beating the Swedish forces in the 30-Years′-War.
The building that immidietely strikes your eye is Kirsche Am Hof often called Church of the Nine Choirs of The Angels. It was firstly a gothic building and rebuilt in XVII century in baroque style.
Maybe it's not one of the most beautiful churches in Vienna but if you pass by and have a couple of minutes you won't regret it.
