Alpha Genesis Hotel Kuala Lumpur Reviews

2 nights in Kuala Lumpur Oct 18, 2012
When it comes to finding hotels, I focus on 2 things; cheap and good location. Thus, Alpha Genesis Hotel fits that bill. I enjoy Bukit Bintang, the so-called central location of Kuala Lumpur for tourists due to the shopping and a myriad of food around the area. I saw Alpha Genesis Hotel online, being a 3 star hotel, with a great location, free breakfast and costing about S$30 (Singapore Dollars), I decided to book for 2 nights stay to attend a talk at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur. From the exterior of the building, it looks pretty basic.

However, upon entering my hotel room, I was very pleased. 2 good-looking beds and a clean bathroom was enough to make me happy. The view from my hotel window wasn't that appealing as I could see into old houses from above. But that didn't bother me. While the TV wasn't of the latest technology (being LCD or LED), I was satisfied as they had cable channels however, for certain channels, I wasn't able to view them but could only listen to the audio.

You've heard the positive side of the hotel. Now, I'll share a bit about the downside. First, it has to be the breakfast. The variety of dishes (being a buffet) was pathetic as they provide about 3-4 dishes. If you want half boiled egg, you have to pay RM3.50 (Ringgit Malaysia). The Nasi Lemak was tasteless and I settled for Roti Kirai which was snapped up quickly by the breakfast hunters. Secondly, I wasn't so pleased with their service. I asked for an iron and the board to iron my clothes. It took a while for the housekeeping staff to pass it to my room. When I wanted to return back, the staff didn't want to collect it, stating that the housekeeping staff is busy. Therefore, I just leave it outside my room. Lastly, I'd say the surrounding area of the hotel isn't so family-friendly. I was walking back towards the hotel about 2am when a pimp approached me nearby and ask if I want some prostitues which are JUST BEHIND THE HOTEL. The pimp was a nice chap though and wasn't pushy.

Overall, I still rate the hotel a 4/5 stars due to the location (not for the need of a prostitute just behind the hotel), cheap price (3 star hotel for S$30 is awesome) and the nice room.

The Silver Lining in Backpacking Jan 26, 2011
While I was backpacking through Malaysia me and friend were convinced we'd only stay at hostels for the whole trip..due to cashflow problems mostly. after two hostels in singapore and melake before we headed to kuala lumpur we decided to try a hotel because the backpack life was not for us on a longterm basis..(a bit spoiled i know haha) and we came across the Allson Genesis (now Alpha). This hotel in the center of Kuala Lumpur in the Golden Triangle is close to most of the main sights you will find here like the Petronas Towers. Its a great value for money, rooms are neat and clean and breakfast is good. Only downside for me was they lost some of my expensive underwear while doing our laundry. not sure if it was on purpose but they paid for it so I was able to replace them.

Felt Uneasy - But Still A Good Location Jun 22, 2011
Stayed here for my first ever trip overseas and was a bit worried. Walked into the hotel and whilst the staff were friendly, piles of rubbish were sitting out the front along with a smell that can only be described as 'sewage'. Got to the room and it help like there were peep holes through the whole place. While the bed was confortable and it was in a pretty good location, it left an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Luckily we were only here for 2 days. We went out one night and there were rats the size of small dogs following us up the road - not the hotels fault but still, not an overly good experience.

"a home at the heart of Kuala Lumpur" Oct 10, 2009
i was traveling alone when i checked in at this hotel. i arrived past midnight but had no problem with the transfer because it was provided by the hotel. (airport is approx 45mins away from KL)...

the hotel is located in the heart of KL. 5mins walk from the famous bukit bintang area... 3 mins walk to the famous "food street" -the haven for food trippers like me who scouts for very tasty and very cheap local foods and delicacies. 5mins away from the train station... 10 mins walk to the gadget mall ( which i forgot the name) where you can find really cheap gadgets... 10 mins walk from shopping centers. just across the next street, you will find the best clubs and bars. basically, the location, for me, is its best asset.

the hotel itself is very cozy. well, nothing so "grand" about the small lobby, but the receptionist were very friendly. there is also a luggage compartment where you can leave your things if you plan to check out early.

i reserved the cheapest room since i was just on a budget travel itinerary, but the receptionist upgraded my room to a deluxe room at the top floor of the hotel.

the room was cozy, not so spacious, though, but very clean and homey. when i slid the curtains, the view from my glass window is so spectacular! i even thought it was "postcard" like. i had a great view of the KL tower and of the skyscrapers of KL.

the breakfast was not special but not so bad. well, the "food street" is just around the corner.

this is a place that i will definitely recommend to travbuddies looking for a "home at the heart of KL".
