Alona Beach Bohol Reviews
Alona Beach Apr 15, 2008
Alona Beach is a well-developed half kilometer stretch of white sand on the south-west section of Panglao Island.
We arrived at our hotel (Citadel Alona) around lunch time. Citadel Alona offers bed and breakfast accommodation at an affordable price. It's location is perfect, it's only a 5-8 minute walk to the beach, an ATM machine and several convenience stores. The only draw back of the hotel is the shared bathrooms, which isn't a problem if you're all alone there, such is our case during our first day. For more information on Citadel Alone visit: http://www.citadelalona.com.
As for Alona Beach, it is the only area in Bohol that offers visitors a wide range of accommodations, bars and restaurants.
We first went to the beach late afternoon, hence lowtide. I have to admit, it was quite disappointing at first. There were lots of boats everywhere, seagrass are scattered on the beach, lots of people... not at all inviting.
It's a different story during the earlier part of the day. Although, there's still a lot of people and boats atleast the tide is just ride for a swim.
The beach is so busy all day. Activities start in the wee hours of the morning, when boats prepare to take people to dolphin watch. By lunch time, everyone is there - vendors selling trinkets and other stuff, women offereing massages. By late afternoon to night time, the bars play their loud music, restaurants start to grill, and there's also some dancing at night specially during weekends. Of course, let's not forget about the prostitutes.
All in all, this is a very commercial beach. If you happen to be the kind of person who just wants to relax and be away from all the activities, take a boat to nearby Islands, or take a tricycle to other less busy beaches in Panglao. I'd only recommend this beach for the wide choices of restaurants and accomodations.
