Aloha Krakow Reviews
The Hoff, Hawaii, and Reggae music, all in one bar!!! Oct 09, 2008
I don't think there's anywhere else in the world where you'll get The Hoff, Hawaii and reggae music all under one roof. This place was recommended in the inyourpocket guide that a friend of mine purchased in a souvenir shop on the main square.
Aloha is about a twenty minute walk from the main square, in or near Kazimierz, I can't remember correctly for some reason....
It's a small place, some may say cosy.
The main thing that caught our attention as we walked into Aloha, was the bar's homage to The Hoff (and to a lesser extent, a few other Baywatch characters). There's a picture of The Hoff plastered accross several walls, and on the cocktail menu, I even saw one on the old Trabant parked outside. Despite the Hawaiian theme, there are are no native girls dancing around in grass skirts.
Aloha offers a huge variety of cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Although on the menu in the non-alcoholic section, it clearly states that these can be made into alcoholic versions. Personally, I've never understood the point in non-alcoholic cocktails, they remain a complete mystery to me. On this occasion I stuck to beer, didn't want to start mixing drinks now. I'd say prices here are cheaper than the average Krakow joint, it is a student kinda place so I can't imagine them forking out a fortune on drinks.
Someone came up with the idea of having a telephone at each table which allows you to call other tables to have a chat. Some may think this is weird, I thought it was great but didn't get a chance to test the system, we were still gawping at the legend that is The Hoff. This bar also offers shisha, the only flavoured tobacco available at the time - pineapple - was superb.
The staff here were great, really friendly and didn't worry about the six British blokey blokes who had taken over one corner of the bar (I know we Brits have a reputation abroad). Actually it was one barman, I believe his colleague was on our side of the bar, enjoying several beverages but hey, it was a Monday night. The best thing about this place was the closing time, after asking the barman, we were told they'd close whenver we left.
