Allison’s Morganton Reviews
Spreading the Gospel Aug 29, 2015
You would think life had taught me to be wary by now, but hope springs eternal and I am always seeking fun local diners. Reconnoitering the possibilities earlier in the afternoon, Allison’s was the sole “non chain” option and I decided to head there for dinner. Not a terrible mistake, but ecstasy was clearly absent.
Well, for me anyway. Things appeared innocent enough from the exterior, but immediately upon entering I was regaled with a chorus singing gospel. There in a back corner sat roughly twelve folks with hymnals belting away at Christian songs. Instantly the radar went up that this would not be a great dining experience, which proved correct.
The menu was presented on overhead boards (it is order at the counter with no wait staff) and I opted for a chef salad “for here”. Cannot recall when I ever received such a plastic shrouded box for dining in. It was, well, a bit short of okay. Since this place has not been forced out by chains I presume they must serve up something tasty, so I believe your faithful reviewer missed the mark. The salad was about as tasty as it appears in the photo. Meaning "not very". Since there was no wait staff the only person I interacted with was the cashier, though I found her to be very friendly.
The gospel choir concluded their sessions after three more songs, so the quiet was savored afterwards.
