We are staying in a small hotel/hostel in Cuzco which is only two blocks away from the Plaza de Armas. So its in a ideal place.
We booked this hotel/hostel a week before we got into Cuzco with the same company for which we brought our Inka trek with. We paid $20 between us for a double room. When we got to the hotel, the man who runs the place asked us how much we paid? so we told him, $20 and so with all the nights there we are paying $80. Well we thought nothing of it, but in the room there is a sign saying that the cost of a double room is in fact $45 we have never paid anything more than $30. Seriously we cant afford $45 so if after our four nights they say thats how much it will be then we will have to find a different place to stay.
The room is very nice, we have a large room with two comfortable beds, good sheets on them, its nice and clean, we also have our own bathroom with hot shower, and cable tv. Our room has a balcony which overlooks on to a street which is very pretty. Its a very nice room, and if it is actually $45 then sorry its a bit of a rip off. For $45 you should have a much larger room and more mod cons. I dont mind paying $20-$25 but it would be hard to pay that amount for what you have.
