Cave dining in Kenya Mar 16, 2011
There are some places where decor and surroundings are unimportant.I've eaten great meals in blandly appointed restaurants that looked like a school canteen. But there's no doubt food tastes better in atmospheric and exotic places. The food in Ali Barbour's Cave is pretty good, but the theatricality of its setting is worth visiting. Diani Beach is a decent resort. It's not well-tended, but the white sand beach is pleasant, the vendors are polite and not aggressive, and our hotel, The Flamboyant, is excellent. It has about 10 rooms and the staff are helpful, polite and efficient. It is owned by the same people as the restaurant, so it's a short walk from one to the other. The cave is underground. You go down a flight of steps into a dimly lit grotto, the coral walls around you. Look up at the entrance and you'll see the stars. The staff are well-trained. We saw one of the waitresses do an excellent flambe.

Would I go back? Probably not, unless I was in the area. But it's definitely worth going for the experience.
