I really wanted to see Gibraltar. And a piece of Africa. It gave me the feeling that I've almost been there. So we took a great drive from Ronda to Algeciras through mountains, it took us some time to go a little more than 100km. We didn't look for easy ways, no paid road, of course, some dead ends and a lot of ups and downs in the real sense of the word. Travel guides describe Algeciras as a boring, dangerous port city.  Don't believe it.  The city has a lot to offer. I guess I love this city because it was my first experience in the Old World back in 96.  Also, during the years that I was in Morocco on a tourist visa, this is where I'd come every three months to get my passport stamped. The ferry from Tanger across to Algeciras was as crowded as the bus and the train had been as we traveled on land in Marocco.  We couldn't get any sleep due to the constant movement of the passengers past us.      Our trip sitting outside the smelly train toilet seemed to hang about me.   I longed for our compfortable hotel room back in Algeciras where I could shower the dirt and smell away.
