Alf Laila Reviews
One of a Kind hotel in Dahab, Egypt Apr 06, 2009
I am always for supporting the little guy in terms of accommodations. You do have to consider giving up on certain amenities, but I'm not fussy and would prefer to be surrounded by character and atmosphere. The staff doesn't speak English and the owner is not always around so sometimes there is a need to be patient if you require personalized service. The Alf Laila is not on the beach, although it's a quick 5-minute walk. So, no views of the water, but the surroundings are charming with each room individually decorated with an eye toward local style. It's not geared toward the all night party crowd. An establishment of this small size which caters to locals as well as foreigners cannot get a liquor license, so having a drink there is not possible, and Andy the German owner keeps things quiet after 10:00pm. There is air conditioning and private baths and attached to the hotel is the very popular German Bakery.
