Nice enough Mar 10, 2013
Constructed in the latter half of the nineteenth century, this cathedral is built in the neo-Byzantine style and is the second largest in the Balkans (after the one in Belgrade). The church was built in honour of the Russian print and saint, Alexander Nevsky. I think one of his relics is preserved within the cathedral. The cathedral’s façade is rather iconic with its shades of gold and light turquoise. Inside, I didn’t think that the decoration or overall impression of the cathedral was that awe-inspiring. It was respectable enough but I expected something a bit grander for the capital city. The cathedral also has a pretty decent gift shop. If you are visiting Sofia, this site is a must-see for many itineraries and I would recommend a very quick visit here.

It was perfect weather that day Brian, and I was lucky! Jim, the cathedral belongs to the Bulgarian orthodox faith, and I agree about the unusual style. Not seen one like this before!
