Alex Hotel Berlin Reviews
My East Berlin hideaway. Oct 17, 2009
When I booked my stay in Berlin, I was price conscious but location just as key. Seeing as I don't drive, the more walking or transit options I had the better. From that point of view, the Alex Hotel fit a number of points on my list.
I was able to book a room for 37 euros/night. The room was oddly long and thin, and brought to mind the Eastern block. It wasn't uncomfortable, but the layout was strangely linear. The same held true for the washroom, with the toilet at one end and the shower some 10 feet away on the opposite side of the room.
The staff was polite and helpful, although I didn't interact with them much more that the check in/check out process, and one identity check when entering the hotel at a late/early hour.
The hotel was located slightly less than a kilometer (.6 miles) from Alexanderplatz('Alex'), which is the transportation hub of Berlin (roughly a ten minute walk.) There is also a trolly stop directly in front of the hotel and that takes about 2 minutes to reach Alex. Directly behind the hotel is a large park for daytime chilling.
A continent style breakfast buffet is available in the mornings. Nothing too fancy, but over all better quality than the breakfast buffets you get in North American hotel chains. There was also complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate available 24 hours a day.
