Great happy hour and the chips and salsa? might as well hook me up to an IV so I can have continuous salsa! Jan 16, 2011
Alero has 2 other locations, but I know for a fact, that the U street location is popular with locals. Why? If you sit at the bar or the lounge area, happy hour specials included $5 frozen margaritas, $5 quesadas, and $4 Mexican beers (from 330-7pm, including Saturdays). It is very very very tempting to sit ouside; it an enclosed and covered area, but you are still outside and on a warm spring day, you can feel the warmth without being directly in the sun and heat. Happy hour is not available outdoors, as a matter of fact, you might not be able to sit outside unless you're ordering dinner. If 5 people are together and only 3 are eating, they will charge the other 2 a flat rate for sitting outside.

Great professional crowd, good menu, but be weary of the frozen strawberry margarita. It's good, nice and thick, but can be a little sweet. The lime and strawberry swirl might be a little more tart.

This is a great spot to begin your evening or stay here for the most of it. You won't be disappointed, unless you get there late and can't find a seat-that's disappointing.

Parking on U street can be kind of hard; don't park directly on U street, aim for a side street and be sure to read the signs as different streets have parking that ends at different times-wierd, I know.

Great location (I live nearby), but the food here is pretty terrible.
