My little brother wanted to go somewhere unusual over break, and had the idea that a small town in New Mexico might be a interesting place to visit. He initially selected a tiny town of 500 people, but I told him that I wanted to stay somewhere with at least a few modern luxuries. He relented, and in fact gave up the idea of staying in a small town altogether. Instead, we decided to visit Albuquerque, NM.I wasn't sure what we would find in Albuquerque, and I was suprised to learn it is a city of several hundred thousand. Coming from Los Angeles, it almost seemed like a small town -- but again, that's coming from Los Angeles, a city of 16 million. We decided to stay in the local Marriot, which turned out to be a good choice. The room was very large, well kept, and newly updated. There was fast internet access for $10 a night, and a large gym and heated pool. All in all, Albuquerque was not the most exciting place to visit, but the hotel was very nice, and I would not mind going there again for a quiet break from West Coast life that isn't too expensive.
