Albufeira has a very nice old center. But if you want to see the authentic portugal, there is not much left. In 1755 there was an earthquake this destroyed a lot. The main places in the south of portugal are, Faro, portimao lagos and albufeira. Albufeira has grown into a very big city with only big Hotels. It is for tourists who like to drink and party an amazing place to be. In this place you see a lot of British tourists. The strip is also filled with English pub's and bar's. The beach is beautiful but you have to walk a very steap hill down. But down is not the problem. The way up is!!! The beach in the area of the strip is too crowded. But there are othere nice beaches. The portugese people are very friendly and helpful, but they don't like the indecently behaviour of the tourists. The road's are very good, but very hard to find on the map. We rented a car and drove around, we went to Sevilla and back to Faro, and Albufeira. Yes we ended up in Beja. Very far away from the sea and Albufeira. There was a sign on the road that said to Portugal. So we took that road. Wrong! Wrong! We were totally lost. And the problem is, the people in the inlands don't speak English!! So you wil have a problem. But the inlands are very beautiful and pure.
