I still live by what I learned in 90s cartoons.

In an old school episode of Bobby's World, Bobby, Howie Mandell and the gang went on a family vacation to a Canadian national park. As a child living in Vancouver, having rarely heard any references to Canada except on Sesame Street when Elmo would wear a parka and shiver, it was pretty exciting. When Bobby's family drove up to the park entrance, the most Canadian man you've ever seen greets them with a joke about how to spell 'Canada': C-eh-N-eh-D-eh. I used that joke for years, but no one e...

Where to go?
posted by:
Oct 10, 2007
I have been spending a lot of time lately trying to decide my next trip. I want to plan a longer trip this time as my 6 weeks in Europe in the spring just wasn’t enough for me. I’ve been considering maybe Asia this time around or possibly Australia but I’m finding it really hard to actually choose a place and get planning. I figure I want to travel for atleast 2 months in the spring but I guess that will depend on whether I find a travel buddy or whether I travel alone.   Here’...

Up to the Rockies! (1)

Aug 05, 2007
It started as a joke during our telephone conversation a month before when our long-time friends from Winnipeg had been 'heavily' persuaded by my wife to come and visit us; no one obliged and committed. By first week of August, a convoy of three loaded minivan was parked in front of our residence; it was them. It was an incredulous moment since we were almost ready to enjoy the mid-summer just between us. Since it's been five long years when we decided to part with th...

The Ponoka Stampede is Canada's largest 6 day rodeo. All the top Cowboys, Cowgirls and Chuckwagon drivers are here. They have the best stock from world famous ranches to give the contestants all they can handle. Events include steer wrestling, calf roping, chuck wagon racing, bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, bareback, and team roping. You can also watch the wild horse race and wild cow milking. The evenings offer concerts, the midway and a beer garden.

Hi everyone, This is my first week in Edmonton, so I thought it would be a nice opportunity to give a first impression of the trip and Canada itself. Canada is a beautiful country wih lots of mountains and blablablablablablabla. Yeah, that is exactly what this blog is not for. To have you all read this and take the risk I will bore you to death or get you fired, because you thought it would be a good idea to read this at work and are drooling over your keyboard right now. Edmonton is a nice ...

The travel seed was always planted in the back of my mind, but really only began to grow in the last 6 weeks or so.  It flourished so quickly that what originally was an autumn vacation to Australia suddenly became a 6 month round-the-world backpacking trip. The only logical next step was to sell my car, quit my job, let the house lease expire, and move back home to plan what some may call a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.  The only problem with that is, I hope this is ...

When I graduated I wanted to see more of Canada so I went Outwest Twice actually. Once right after I graduated in Spring and another time in the fall to go visit my sister and stayed at the Chateau Lake Louise where she was working. I did a lot of day trips hiking. Shared some memories with my family which is important to me and had a wonderful experience. I would definately go back.

Days 6 to 8 - R&R in Calgary, Alberta
posted by:
Sep 20, 2008 - Oct 10, 2008
Lots of rest and relaxation during my first full day in Calgary. The second day saw me attending to motorcycle maintenance matters, while on day three I went for a long walk on a beautiful day which took me to many places, including to the top of the Calgary Tower. The tower was built in 1967 to celebrate Canada's Centenial. A gas-fired cauldron was added to the top in recognition of the 1988 Winter Olympics, which were held in Calgary. The tower is 191 metres high (627 feet).

Banff, Alberta - August 2-3, 2005

My sister was living in Banff at the time, so I went to visit her for a couple days. It takes about six hours to drive from Vernon to Banff, and it’s a beautiful drive. I recommend the trip just for that. You’ll pass through little towns such as Revelstoke and Golden, before you drive through the Rocky Mountains. I’m a little biased to the beauty of the Rockies, seeing as I love mountains so much, but the Rocky Mountains are pretty amazing. Banff is situated in Banff National Park. The...

Counting down the days
posted by:

This morning the alarm went off way too early, ringing at 6am. By 6:30 we were on the subway on our way to the airport. I had booked mom's flight through Areoplan, and it had really bad connections. The first flight at 1:30 (instead of my 10:30am flight) with a 6 hour layover in Montreal, getting her in at 11:30pm. We went to the booking agent and for $50 got her flight changed so she was on my flight and got into Halifax at 4:30pm. Much better and definitely worth the change fee! Mom had gi...
