The pictures I am putting on this blog...some of them are part of my history, before my Father was born..most of the pictures are from slides that my Dad took. They are photos of things he enjoyed, life, family, friends, relatives...he loved all of that. He loved farming (well maybe not so much). He always wanted to be a Park Ranger...he loved the outdoors, mother nature, wildlife...and water. My Dad had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. I ne...

We had the most perfect weekend, a beautiful way to share the world together. We
flew up to Banff on the Friday night and stayed in the beautiful
Fairmont Springs, the fairy tale castle of the Canadian Rockies. On
Saturday we went on a few wildlife trips around the Montane forests of
Banff. We forests are mostly Lodgepole pine and Spruce, with a few
groves of Aspen. It was really interesting to hear how the flora was
shaped by the geography (the harsh weather and alkaline soils blocks

Last night we stayed at jasper Youth Hostel in our boarding school style dorm. As soon as the lights came on this morning at 8am, the whole place came alive. It was like listening to a symphony of velcro, cords and zips whizzing back in forth. We lay in bed for a while but soon decided enough was enough and got up.
Whilst in Jasper we decided to splash out and booked into Bear Hill Lodge in the town. It is a collection of wood cabins surrounded by trees. I...

In about one week, I am leaving for what I hope will be an amazing adventure and experience...my first trip around the world (and hopefully not my last). Though I have been travelling to many destinations far and wide, this will be the longest so far. On top of it, I am going to make it to a few places that I have wanted to see for a long, long time....Morocco, Egypt, and India.
With only a few days of work left, I have started packing. I am a little bit nervous (to be expe...

The trip started a little on the wrong foot when the Emirates flight departing Dubai on the morning of 5th July was delayed by two hours due to a technical fault. I was left with just 20 mins upon arrival in London Heathrow to catch my connecting Air Canada flight to Calgary. I think I clocked the fastest run in my life with the dash out of the plane through Heathrow Terminal 3, jumping the queue at the security check and making it on the Air Canada flight just in the nick of time.

Well the big day has arrived. Where did all of the time go? It snowed with a vengence yesterday so the place is buried in about 6 inches of snow. A fitting scene for our departure I suppose. No doubt, this being Calgary it will be 15 or 20 above by the weekend. This is the part of travel that is the best and the worst. You're very excited about going but the thought of a long marathon of plane travel these days doesn't exactly fill ...

Well, I just got off the phone with my friend Jenny who decided on the fly to book a trip to Belize...at first I cursed her for being a Teacher and having the Summer off to plan trips on the fly, then I cursed her for going there without me since we had traveled there together last New Years, followed by me cursing her for reminding me she did ask me and I had no holidays left...FINALLY I cursed her for making me take care of her dogs while she is away...the last curse wasn't as lou...

In an old school episode of Bobby's World, Bobby, Howie Mandell and the gang went on a family vacation to a Canadian national park. As a child living in Vancouver, having rarely heard any references to Canada except on Sesame Street when Elmo would wear a parka and shiver, it was pretty exciting. When Bobby's family drove up to the park entrance, the most Canadian man you've ever seen greets them with a joke about how to spell 'Canada': C-eh-N-eh-D-eh. I used that joke for years, but no one e...

Wow! What an incredible place! Like a little swiss town tucked away in the Canadian Rockies. Banff is listed in the book "1000 places to see before you die!"

I have been spending a lot of time lately trying to decide my next trip. I want to plan a longer trip this time as my 6 weeks in Europe in the spring just wasn’t enough for me. I’ve been considering maybe Asia this time around or possibly Australia but I’m finding it really hard to actually choose a place and get planning. I figure I want to travel for atleast 2 months in the spring but I guess that will depend on whether I find a travel buddy or whether I travel alone.
Here’...

The Ponoka Stampede is Canada's largest 6 day rodeo. All the top Cowboys, Cowgirls and Chuckwagon drivers are here. They have the best stock from world famous ranches to give the contestants all they can handle.
Events include steer wrestling, calf roping, chuck wagon racing, bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, bareback, and team roping. You can also watch the wild horse race and wild cow milking. The evenings offer concerts, the midway and a beer garden.

Hi everyone,
This is my first week in Edmonton, so I thought it would be a nice opportunity to give a first impression of the trip and Canada itself. Canada is a beautiful country wih lots of mountains and blablablablablablabla. Yeah, that is exactly what this blog is not for. To have you all read this and take the risk I will bore you to death or get you fired, because you thought it would be a good idea to read this at work and are drooling over your keyboard right now. Edmonton is a nice ...
