Albatross Backpackers Newcastle upon Tyne Reviews
Given its location and the entire package, I say three thumbs up! May 25, 2014
When I think of a hostel these days, I'm only thinking of one thing, well three things - location, location and erm... location! So by that benchmark, it's a Godsend when you find a hostel that has location, safety and overall a very nice experience.
Nested just 2 blocks away from the main railway station, and about 3-4 blocks away from the city's biggest mall and bus station, you cannot go wrong with the Albatross! Checkin is fairly smooth, they have free wifi although it seems to work only in the main floor. The beds are nice, rooms are safe, but we had issues getting into ours (you had to put the keycard in a certain angle!). Bathrooms were clean. You have separate ones for men and women. But no one checks so you can use either ;-) There's free milk, bread and butter! The kitchen is nice and airy overall. And a really good basement.
If anything, I have only one gripe about this place (not that it affects me too much these days) and that is that it's really quiet. There was either next to no one staying or it was just hard to find people and socialise!
The beauty is its location - Grainger road. There's practically everything you'd need - a nice tearoom next door, loads of pubs and grocery stores. Self-contained never seemed this good!
