Albany is located about thirty minutes west of I-75 in the southwest region of Georgia. This area was first inhabited by the Creek Indians where the town got its first name, Thornateeska, meaning where the flint is found. Nelson Tift then settled here in 1836 and gave it its new name, Albany.

Albany played an important role in the civil rights movement and has many museums, monuments, and historical sites to celebrate its past.

There are also other attractions to please all ages, such as an aquarium, zoo, parks, museum of arts, orchestra, ballet company, theatre, planetarium, and many shopping centers.

Southwest Georgia is also known to be the quail huning capital of the world with most of the plantations surrounding the Albany area. Deer, dove, turkey, and duck are also game in this area and for the fisherman there are many lakes and streams.
