The most popular park in the outer new town May 05, 2017
In the north (upper end) of the Outer New Town, along Bischofsweg street, is Alaunpark, a former parade-ground of the 19th century military district Albertstadt that's higher up on the hill - now reduced to a cadet school and military museum, otherwise civil businesses and apartments. Most of the park is designed as an English park, with large lawns, trees, bushes etc. and only at the edges are flower beds, a place to play boccia, playgrounds for kids and benches for a rest.

The locals who live in the surroundings - and not only they! - love this park. On nice, warm days they make it their living room and playground, bring their kids or meet up with friends, play football or frisbee on the lawns, have BBQs/picnics till late at night, even early morning. In winter there's a ski jump contest on the hill in the north - just a joke, of course. But fun. Basically you can say that *something* is always going on. Almost in the middle of Alaunpark is a small community garden where locals joined to grow veggies - organic, of course. On Thursdays and Saturdays a small food market is held at a paved zone centrally at Bischofsweg (southern) side.

There are lots of restaurants, cafes and bars in the neighbouring streets, especially south of Alaunpark. Check Görlitzer Straße and Alaunstraße in particular that run down from the park, but at Bischofsweg along the park. Take tram #13 to/from the park, stop is properly named "Alaunplatz".
