nice route, good information Jul 25, 2011
Took the "Coastal Classic" Train from Anchrage to Seward.

It´s not a high speed transfer to your next destination. It´s more a sightseeing tour on a pretty slow train which takes 4 hours from Anchorage to Seward.

Everything is very well organized and you have plenty of room inside of the train. Each wagon has a kind of viewing platform but also from your seats you have the best view to the stunning landscape of Alaska. During the ride you get provided with details of the area you just passing. The train slows down if interesting animals are spotted. Overall a very nice trip!

I would not pay almost twice as much for the "GoldStar Service". Bring your own drinks and a sandwich and save that money for a nice trip in Seward or Anchorage.

A Fabulous way to travel Alaska. No traffic stress, no cramped seating, no rude employees, etc... Definently better than most buses, airplanes, and even Amtrak.

I recommend upgrading to the Gold Star Service. For just a little more money you get First Class amenities. The world famous seating in the upper car (wrap around windows). Great restuarant. And a bartender and naturalist available in your car. The bartenders can help you with water, soda, *hot chocolate*, tea, and adult beverages. The naturalist are local high school and college students that talk about the wildlife, landscape, history, and cultural interests of the area.
