This was the third leg of our journey to Akutan, Alaska and by now I was getting a little tired of taking photos out the window of the plane, thank goodness! Plus it became mostly overcast and I couldn’t see the ground anyway. So I dozed off and before I knew it we were t…

Well, the other day I had off for Thanksgiving and I drove to a couple places to try to get some shots, but the sun wasn't out. I wanted to make the best of our six hours of daylight. So I cruised down the Richardson Highway about 50 miles or so and found a pull out off the road by the Tanana River and walks around trying to find some pictures. You could barely see the mountains as the sky was melting into them. But hey, I had to try and see what I could get. No need to waste a day off.

This was our first stop of the ship. My aunt planned the whole trip so we did every excursion possible. We went to see the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, where man have contests and race to cut wood and run over water on logs with out falling out. It was completely tourist-y, but really cute and fu…

I lived in Alaska from '90 to '99 and have been back to Alaska probably atleast 50 times since. Really! And this is all the pictures I have of Alaska. Sad I know! Some of these pictures were taken with an old camera and were scanned so the quality is not too good. I'll be sure to start taking pictures of my Alaska adventures in the future.

I used to live in Homer as child and my cousin used to also. We both decided to check out the town to see if it was everything that we remembered it to be. We saw LOTS of moose, which is pretty much part of what I remember about living there. The town was small but awesome and kinda funky. I loved it! Saw a local band play at the local Irish pub, bought their CD and fell in love with the bass player. Lot's of beautiful scenery which I will try and share with you all thru these pictures. ENJOY!

After
a day of cruising Glacier Bay, we ported in Juneau. Looking out our window that
first morning was such a jolt of excitement. Seeing the gangplank going
into this mining town. All we could see in front of us was shops and a
huge mountain.
We walked off the ship into do…

The second leg of the trip to Akutan was from Anchorage to King Salmon, Alaska. From the name I figured this was a fishing destination and asked why we were stopping there. The flight attendant (yes we had one of these and she was very helpful-a credit to Pen Air) said…

Ok, ok, so Hyder is not in BC. But everything about it screams that it wants to be part of British Columbia. The only land access to this dusty town is through BC, it runs on BC time, not Alaska time (except for the post office which is a government building so runs one hour behind), and they accep…

The rational decision to scale the mountain was made on a clear, idyllic morning in Alaska, USA. In retrospect, all such decisions seem rational when being made, although circumstances, i.e., my propensity for pushing such outings to the limits of irrationality once ad hoc logisti…

Some time ago, I heard about a race called the Mt. Marathon in Seward, Alaska. It's a mile and a half up and a mile and a half down on loose gravel... gravel that you sink 4 inches into with every step. People somtimes ask me what it was like running up that mountain... it was like running in 4 inches of San Diego sand, uphill at 45 degrees.

Trying to actually get to Fairbanks Alaska is probably half the fun, trying to get back is interesting to say the least. My first attempt to venture boldly north was thwarted by an apparent volcanic eruption somewhere in the vicinity of ANC (I could not spell Anchorage Airport) Jet engines have …

The train ride follows along side the Seward scenic hwy, considered one of the most beautiful byways in the US. Leaving Anchorage the train descends thru Anchorage Wildlife Refuge, aka Po…
