As always all good trips must come to an end. The hard part is turning the car around and the even harder part is holding off thinking of what you need to do for work the next day. So the best thing is to drive slower and take a few pics for your travBuddies............ sc

We ask the owner of the campground who is also the employee at the post office if it is possible to drive our RV up the road to the Salmon Glacier. He asks if it is our own RV. When we reply that it’s a rental he says that in that case it is not a problem! So we take the risk and drive up the roa…

Decided that I didn't have enough time for a day trip to Denali, I took time in the morning, with no idea what to do until my flight back at 8:25pm. I went to Kincaid Park, which has a nice view of Chikaloon Bay, and started reading the Alaska guide book I'd neglected on the outbound flight in favo…

I visited Anchorage, Alaska as part of my job in June, 2009. While I was working most of the time, I did get to see some interesting things. I also experienced my first earthquake at 5.4 on the Richter Scale!
I arrived on the longest day of the year in Alaska so there were celeb…

And by early morning, I mean 12:30 AM (or 4:30 AM by my body clock). Still light enough to see although the sun had set around 11:45 PM. Shuttled over to the hotel for the night. This morning and afternoon the Golden Days Parade tracked right past my hotel so I went out and mingle…

We were pretty excited to be moving onto our next destination, Juneau, Alaska! I'll admit we were also excited to get on the ferry and be able to use the electrical outlets found throughout the ship! This would be an overnight ferry ride, departing Ketchikan at 2:30pm and arriving in Juneau at 10:3…

Couple years ago, my wife and I took a cruise to Alaska. When we first ventured on this vacation, I thought...eh, wouldn't summertime be better spent drifting through some exotic islands. I could swim, drink fruity alcoholic beverages with umbrellas poking out the sides, and flirt with …

Finally I am on the island of St Paul. St Paul is a tourist destination with a decent “hotel” that has comfortable sleeping rooms near the airport. In the summer hundreds of people come to St Paul for bird watching and later in the year many people come for…

There's watching captive whales at Sea World perform silly stunts for dead fish. And then there's watching wild whales.
You never forget the first whale you see that's not caged. There's always something fresh about it in your mind and each time I tell this tale, I smile. I can o…

Our welcome to Alaska occurred in Ketchikan which is a wonderful small city to explore on foot. A tunnel not far from where our ship docked divided the city into two areas, and we had the chance to see both. First, we headed right (which may have been south). This is the touristy …

Well not the best day for pictures as the clouds covered what little time there was for the sun to shine. BUT I finally got my moose picture and it happened right beside the road. That along with a nice hike in the snow covered birch trees made for a very peaceful day to reflect on the past year.
