The Al Mandaloun is one of several Aleppo mansions that have been converted into hotels. They are all full of atmosphere ... not just the hotel room and restaurants, but also the narrow alleyways leading to them and the part of town that they're in.

Even if you don't stay in one of these hotels, you must at least dine in them. Meals in these romantic settings will not set you back very far by most travellers' standards.  Some alternatives to Al Mandaloun include:

Dar Zamaria
Beit Wakil
Kan Zaman

We celebrated a birthday in Aleppo on a previous trip at the Kan Zaman. The atmosphere was unreal ... choose from dining in an underground cellar, ornate old-world Arab dining room or a roof-top garden.

I'm thinking about staying at this hotel in a few months time - the website pictures look amazing!
