Morrocan Inspired romantic tea-room and oasis! Sep 26, 2011
Al Majlis is honestly one of the most amazing places I have been to whilst living in Bangkok!

Located in Ekkamai, at the back of a small soi (street), it is a bit of a hidden gem. It is sign-posted, but not many people know about, so keep an eye-out for the signs when in a taxi.

There are large rooms inside, which they have decorated with Moroccan style - large comfy lounges, big plump cushions, amazing chandeliers which are set to dim. The lantern-lit garden and courtyard is just as impressive (and which is where we always request to be seated), and perfect for romantic evenings. Reservations are required for the covered outdoor tables. If you do sit outside, and it begins to rain, not to worry, the tables are under a sort of awning, so you wont get wet - but be careful, your shoes might float away with the water when it starts to rise. This is a major downside when coming here in the rainy season.

The menu is not very extensive, yet includes teas, a few light dishes, and homemade cakes. Bottles of wine are also available, but not so cheap. I suggest trying the Moroccan Mint Tea - Amazing, and the Chocolate Fondant Cake - Delicious! You can also order shisha, with a selection of flavours to choose from. They also have a High tea Buffet Set, which comes with Earl grey tea, mini bites, biscuits and cakes. Not to worry if you are a vegetarian, they cater for you too. As the lighting is not too bright, the waitors carry torches so you can read the menu in the dim lighting. They are very attentive, yet when re-filling shisha coals, they can be a little slack.

How to get there (we did get a little lost the first time trying to find it): From Ekkamai BTS Station, take a taxi to Ekkamai Soi 12, turn into first left (Soi Pridi Banomyong 37.) Al Majlis will be on the left.

What will keep me coming here is not the food, but the ambiance and the tea!
