Al Batta Colchester Reviews
Al Batta Dec 26, 2011
This is a small coffee shop in a backstreet in Colchester, specialising in Middle Eastern food, and it’s well worth a visit. Lovely, light little savoury pastries start from a pound for two, and there is a good range of sandwiches, salads and full meals, all reasonably priced.
When I was there, we had a range of little pastries and some vegetables. The portions were small but still extremely good value, and they tasted amazing. I particularly loved the spinach pastries. The coffee was excellent, and very strong (I don’t normally need to sweeten latte!). Service was great. Two lamb pastries, two spinach pastries, two coffees, three of a different kind of lamb pastry and some really nice fried vegetables came to £12 total (December 2011) which is a lot less than you would pay for a coffee and a cardboard flavoured sandwich for two in the national chains. The café had a nice relaxed feel, and played middle eastern sounding music. There was a pile of shisha pipes stacked in a corner, which may mean that there is a garden in better weather as British law doesn’t let you have that indoors.
