Al-Andalus Hostel May 20, 2017
It was pretty easy to get to the Al-Andalus Hostel. First of all it is located in very center of Granada, and secondly there is good connection to the train or bus. So, hostel is in the old stone building in the old part of town, just across the Cathedral… Honestly, incredible location. When you are ready for Alhambra, you just start climbing the hill and after a bit of sweating and some hard breading you are there! Much easier when you are coming down hill. No sweat…

So I got there from the bus station with the one direct bus. Not knowing how to move around I simply asked with my broken Spanish, and there were some people that understand me a bit… Easier way to move around is if you get a map from the central bus station or if you maybe have your phone with the map (phone is considered cheating…). Old town is a bit of the maze. Small streets are so tight that you will have to jump in the doorways in order for the car to pass next to you. Hostel is one of those small streets. A bit dark at night, but very pleasant and cool at the heat of the day. It is hard to figure out the door of the hostel, so you better know the number of the location.

Reception is immediately on the left and there is always someone in that room. Building has old style Spanish balconies edging the courtyard in the middle. Courtyard is covered with see through roof which brings enough light during the day. Majority of the rooms are upstairs. The building is meticulously upgraded into modern all functional dwelling. There are many accents from the old times, but everything else is 21st century. WiFi is a bit spotty, the strongest signal is around the reception area. It is a bit hard to find power sockets that you can use.

First floor hosts spacious kitchen and lots of tables. Breakfast is provided but it is far away from what you can score in small restaurants around the town. Coffee is good and strong, available whole day.

You can get map of the city and basic information at the reception desk, but better maps are found on Tourist information centers across the town.

My dorm room was well organized, a bit dark. Beds were steady with wooden lockers on the bottom. Bathroom was very clean and good. Hot water available all the time. If you have full dorm, you better try to jump in that shower as soon as you can. There is only one other restroom in the hostel that you can access and it is on the first floor.

Most of the people go to Granada with the plan to visit Alhambra. Try to make it there as early as you can in order to avoid groups and overwhelming crowds. It is very hard to enjoy in the art of Alhambra if there are 50 people around you, waiting for you to move from their shot…

This place is warmly recommended and very good, cheap option while visiting Granada.
