Akaka Falls Nature Trail Feb 16, 2009
Akaka Falls Park is a great stop if you are driving between Hilo and Hamakua on your trip around the island. It is a bit of a detour, but very scenic. Park is approximately 35 minutes round trip from the highway.

The nature trail passes by two very tall waterfalls, called Akaka Falls and Kahuna Falls. Banyon trees, giant bamboo, and lush rainforest surround you on your walk to see the falls. Most of the trail is paved. Restrooms are located at the parking area. The walk takes approximately a half hour.

If you work up an appetite, stop at Lisa's Pizza on your way out of town. Yummy! A friend of mine painted their fading sign about 6 years ago.

Jeff and Jenny also recommend Akaka Falls. Been there a few times and also viewed it via helicopter--very nice falls!

Beauty in its simplest Apr 19, 2009
I have been photographing Hawaii for a couple years now, but this place never quits amazing me. It is beautiful, peaceful, and worth the trip. If you get a chance stop at the little shops back down the road, its worth the cookies.
