Great visit despite the remote location! Feb 05, 2011
Located near Mount Taranga, the jain temple of Ajit Nath Prasad Vihara is a colossally sized structure. I suppose it has to be in order to compete for attention when standing next to a mountain!

Constructed of sandstone and originating from as early as the twelfth century, the temple really commands your attention. It is a combination of these rather bold pillars and studded with these incredibly intricate statues. If you go within the temple, there is a Jain deity seated inside. Back down the steps, you are faced with a huge open courtyard type space. Towards the back stands this image of Bhagvan Ajitnath, who is several metres high and is seated in a lotus position.

The temple is rather unique and was well worth the visit. To get here, the easiest route is to get a bus from Mehsana. The journey finishes just outside the temple, and so would make an easy day trip from Mehsana.
