Ajaccio Corsica May 03, 2017
Ajaccio is capital of Corsica France, the birthplace of Napoleon ,is where i arrived on Corsica by Corsica Ferry from Toulon on mainland France. Journey time was 6 hours.--I stayed at Hotel Dauphin ,Bd Sampiero Alaccio, 150m from ferry terminal and 300m from train station.Hotel was budget and comfortable.-- Napoleon was born in a house in Rue St Charles in 1769 , he lived there till the age of 7. Today the house is a museum.-- The Memorial and Grotto of Napoleon is at Place Austerlitz at the top of Cours General Leclerc. The Grotto is where he is supposed to have played as a little boy.---Ajaccio is on the west coast of Corsica , the train lines go in a Y shape across the island, to Corte , Bastia and Calvi. The route goes through the lovely scenery of the Corsican mountains. Ajaccio to Bastia is 153 km.---There are air flights to the island from many places. Has i said i travelled by ferry this was comfortable even in bad weather. The ferries have a reputation for being on strike a lot. I enjoyed Corsica, the people, scenery , food, wine, weather , beer, everthing.
My route round Corsica. by train.
